Honestly Sarina after talking with you on video chat, I was struck by your positivity and good energy. I love that you're taking this time to find your passion and purpose, but just know you have a magnetism that will get you in the door so many places! Also as soon as you told me about Gabby Bernstein I had to go look her up lol, newly obsessed 🤩
Thank you for being vulnerable Sarina! I can really relate. I was laid off from my first job out of college in 2009. The economy was collapsing and it was an incredibly difficult time to find another job in my field. I ended up stumbling into a few different jobs that gave me very different experiences. I think the best part was learning about teams and what makes them great or toxic.
It's been amazing to connect with so many people outside of my regular bubble and actually has been a good reminder to do that no matter what your circumstance is - people have so much to share!
Sarina ~ Your post is so heartfelt, thoughtful and incredibly courageous. I really admire you sharing your inspiring story of job loss and the process of it. I love everything you are doing currently. I strongly believe in tapping into your network and using LinkedIn as a tool can be powerful in also putting yourself out there to land your next great opportunity. Also, connecting with past recruiters that may have reached out to you is also a great idea. There are still many great companies recruiting for strong candidates and talent, such as yourself even though we are in an elongated pandemic and as companies are still taking aggressive measures to manage costs. I also think accepting rejection as being part of the process is tough but vital. I think realizing it is NOT personal but instead taking it with a grain of salt and continuing to better yourself and working at it will work wonders in becoming self aware and learning the process. Some other insights I am happy to share: I love Stephen Covey and think they have great resources, articles, etc. And if you are looking for your next read, I highly recommend the book: How to win friends and Influence people by Dale Carnegie. It is a classic, business read! Lastly, broadening yourself and the job search is also important. Some people go to narrow at first and have a hard time landing any interviews or connecting with recruiters. I think it is good to explore various industries, and the type of companies (small/start-up, midsize, corporate, etc.) you have always wanted to explore... Best of luck to you in your next endeavor and keep the courageous conversations going as it is people like you who share their stories and make a difference in the world. You will be an asset to the next company that is lucky to hire you on. In the meantime, Happy Job Hunting!
love the post, Sarina! i lost my job in may and was unemployed until just last month! it was such a weird time being unemployed for months and seeing my significant other getting up and working everyday. it can definitely get you down and make you feel like you’re not doing enough! but i decided to take that time and really figure out my next steps and i’m so happy i had that opportunity, because it is so rare to get to have a few months off to just reflect and plan. so i would say to anyone who is going through it, try to use this time wisely. whether it’s to relax and recuperate your energy, or to put all your efforts into finding what’s next for you!
